El Salvador seeks more aid from US

El Salvador's defense minister, fresh from taking delivery of 10 warplanes from the United States, urged that the US send more aid to help fight left-wing guerrillas and rebuilding his country's shattered economy.

Meanwhile, almost 5,000 government troops pushed toward a northeastern guerrilla stronghold Thursday in the largest military offensive of El Salvador's three-year civil war.
