Hanoi offers to free US's Vietnam war allies

Vietnamese Foreign Minister Nguyen Co Thach offered to release for immigration the 2 million Vietnamese (including detention camps internees) allied with the United States during the Vietnam war - if the US will accept them, reports Monitor correspondent Arthur Unger.

The foreign minister gave the offer in a segment of CBS's ''60 Minutes'' news program.[CBS quoted a State Department official as saying the US has indicated readiness to accept a thousand eligible Vietnamese a month with United Nations help.]
