NAM: The Vietnam War in the Words of the Men and Women Who Fought There, by Mark Baker. New York: Morrow Quill Books. 324 pp. $6.

At times overly sensational, Baker's book is based largely on interviews with unidentified, low-ranking enlisted people. Their anonymity shades the book's historicity, but the ''unknown soldier'' quality also redoubles the visceral force of Baker's stories.
