Three charged in attack on Israeli ambassador

June 7, 1982

Three Arabs, arrested after a gunman wounded Israel's ambassador to Britain in London on Thursday, have been charged with attempted murder, a police spokeswoman said. The three men will appear in court Monday.

Police said they had uncovered information that had probably averted other attacks on leading Jews and diplomats in Europe. During the arrests and in separate raids, they found a big arms cache including grenades, ammunition, and two handguns. They refused to comment on press reports that they had found a hit list naming potential targets.
