Soviet and Czech leaders renew support of Poland

June 3, 1982

Soviet President Leonid Brezhnev and Czechoslovak leader Gustav Husak pledged continued backing for the Polish Communist Party leadership's efforts to reestablish its authority, the Tass news agency said.

The remarks, made during talks in the Kremlin, constituted the first clear statement of support for the Warsaw leadership's policies since street demonstrations in Polish cities last month against martial law.
