Two culinary awards at Radcliffe

Two women have been awarded Culinary Research Awards for projects at Radcliffe College's Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America.

Karlene V. Schwartz, University of Massachusetts, Boston, will compile a bibliography on the ''Use of Edible Wild Plants,'' based on the Culinary Collection of the Schlesinger Library.

Joyce Toomre of Harvard University, will study ''The Cookbooks of Alexis Soyer,'' describing the class structure of mid-Victorian English society.

The Schlesinger Library, established in 1943, preserves published and unpublished records of women's contributions and achievements in all areas of American life.

The more than 3,000 volumes in the library's Culinary Collection includes classics from the United States, France, and Britain, as well as an extensive collection of regional cookbooks, particularly in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
