When Los Angeles Manager Tommy Lasorda talks about the Big Dodger in the Sky these days, he isn't kidding. The Dodgers now have a scout in the press box. He is Jerry Stephenson, who pitched for the Boston Red Sox in the 1967 World Series and has been a minor league scout for the past nine seasons.
LA General Manager Al Campanis has given Jerry a walkie-talkie so he can reach the Dodger dugout instantly if he sees a player out of position against opposing hitters.
Despite a struggle to even reach the .500 mark this season, the defending world champion Dodgers have made Stephenson a permanent addition to their staff.
