Pope's visit to Britain is on despite Falklands

Pope John Paul II will go ahead with his visit to Britain despite the fighting in the Falkland Islands which had threatened the trip.

The decision came as officials said Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher told the Pope a cease-fire in the Falklands cannot be achieved unless Argentine troops leave the islands.

The Pope's May 28 visit to England, Scotland, and Wales was in serious doubt because of the Falklands crisis, but British cardinals asked that it go ahead.
