Salvadoran legislators vote to suspend land reform

El Salvador's rightist-dominated legislature passed a motion to suspend the agrarian reform plan for this year's harvest -- a move moderate politicians regard as a step to end the US-supported program.

The Constituent Assembly vote suspended for the 1982-83 harvest a controversial ''Land to the Tiller'' law imposed in March 1980 by the then-ruling military-civilian junta.
