Revival of death penalty loses heavily in Britain

Britain's House of Commons voted overwhelmingly (357 to 195) against a move to restore the death penalty. The vote surprised those who thought support for capital punishment was reviving after being abolished 17 years ago. Although Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher voted to bring back the gallows, many of her Cabinet ministers voted against it.
