Algerian Foreign Minister Muhammad Seddik Benyahia, who played a key role in the release of US hostages in Tehran, died in a plane crash near the Turkish-Iranian border, Tehran Radio said. The Iranian Foreign Ministry said two Iraqi jet fighters chased the plane before it came down. Iraq denied the allegation. Mr. Benyahia was on his way to Tehran for an official visit, during which he was expected to help end the Iran-Iraq war.
