50 Iranian radicals killed in raids by security men

May 4, 1982

Iranian security forces killed or arrested more than 50 leading members of the radical People's Mujahideen in raids on their hide-outs in Tehran, according to Tehran Radio. The raids are the most serious setback for the Mujahideen since their operational leader was killed in a gun battle with security forces four months ago.

The radio said more than 10 guerrilla bases were destroyed, and it named what it said were ten top members of the Mujahideen killed in the operation. At least two were the organization's candidates for the Majlis (parliament) two years ago.

A spokesman for the Mujahideen said many Revolutionary Guards were killed.
