Austrian asks that Poland be urged to revive union

April 22, 1982

Austrian Social Democratic Chancellor Bruno Kreisky called on Western socialists, Social Democrats, and trade unions to appeal to Poland to restore the rights of the suspended free trade union Solidarity, Monitor correspondent Elizabeth Pond writes.

Mr. Kreisky proposed formation of a Western ''committee of good offices'' that could help build bridges between Solidarity members, the Polish military leadership, and even Soviet leaders. Moscow could be interested in this because of its contribution to peace in Europe, Mr. Kreisky told the West German Social Democratic convention in Munich April 21.
