Snow fell in the night on a world of spring. Today in white beauty the birds still sing. A flash of sunlight through the cloud And spring began to call aloud; Cascades of snow from every limb, And bush, and tree, and bud as trim As they had been one night before When winter knocked upon the door. Today we walked in the woods to see. Under the hill, the anemone Lifted its unvanquished star True to self and calendar.
