Caedmon's hymn (c.737)

Now are we to praise the heaven-kingdom's Guard, the Measurer mighty and his mind-thoughts, the Glory-Father's work, as he every wonder's beginning established, eternal Lord. He first created for the children of men heaven for a roof, holy Creator; the middle-yard he after created, man-kind's Guard, eternal Lord-- this land for man, the Lord Almighty.
