Poland to dissolve union, says Solidarity leader

April 12, 1982

An underground leader of the suspended Polish trade union Solidarity said he fears the government plans to permanently dissolve the labor federation. The martial law official responded to the comments by Zbigniew Bujak saying, ''we don't know anything about'' such a plan. Since Solidarity was suspended in December, the government repeatedly has said the union can never be restored to anything close to its former power or independence.
