Soviets protest to US over chemicals charge

April 6, 1982

The Soviet Union protested to the United States over American allegations it delivered chemical weapons for use in Afghanistan and Southeast Asia, embassy sources said. The sources said Ambassador Arthur A. Hartman was given a formal protest note, which, according to the Soviet news agency Tass, said the United States had made its accusations to cover up its use of chemical weapons in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
