The light of Cezanne

April 1, 1982

Half-light not the full glow . . . instead a slow luminous mystery that leads the eye and then the mind past boundaries. Threading between the boles of trees it lies over rock softly as moss or lichen, approaches mountains with a blue serenity. is liquid as rain on steepled roofs. Beyond these the unseen where only mind may venture, accompanied by the shy will the dogged dream that drove through a new rejected form into numinous distance.
