Finished business

March 30, 1982

Why say my say in poems? Why, because conversing, at the junction of a clause, somebody interrupts with ''That reminds me,'' or ''Did I ever tell you?'' Talking finds me setting out on trains of thought that lope from switch to switch with never any hope of keeping them in sequence on a track to anywhere. They leave and don't get back. While conversation, frequently a mess, runs over what I'm trying to express, my poems, resolution undiminished, keep in line to demonstrate they're finished.
