President complains of 'downbeat' TV coverage

March 18, 1982

President Reagan says ''downbeat'' television coverage of his programs and the economy may slow progress toward economic recovery.

''You can't turn on the evening news without seeing that they're going to interview someone else who has lost his job, or they're outside the factory that has laid off workers and so forth,'' Reagan told the Daily Oklahoman.

The President blamed the coverage on the race for network ratings and said he wondered, ''if they aren't more concerned with entertainment than they are with delivering news."
