When Americans would send in the troops

March 15, 1982

A Gallup International poll showed more Americans favor US military action as a response to a Soviet invasion of Western Europe or an Arab oil boycott than to an Arab attack on Israel.

Published by the French magazine Le Point, the poll also revealed that 83 percent of the 2,748 Americans questioned would rather fight than submit to Soviet domination.

Asked whether three given situations would justify a US military intervention , 56 percent favored responding to an invasion of Western Europe by the Soviet Union.
