High court rejects appeals on aircraft noise, census

The Supreme Court refused to hear a case involving an attempt to reduce noise levels caused by commercial jetliner traffic.

California officials had challenged a lower-court ruling that they cannot impose an 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. ''curfew'' at San Diego's busy Lindbergh Field.

The high court also refused to hear a challenge to the 1980 census brought by the State and City of New York that their huge minority populations were undercounted. The justices' action follows a major decision delivered Feb. 24 in which the court ruled cities cannot gain access to population records to check their accuracy.
