Last Western reporter expelled from Uganda

March 2, 1982

The Ugandan government expelled the last Western correspondent based in Kampala, Australian Trent O'Keefe, ordering him to leave the country immediately. Mr. O'Keefe was the last in a series of Western correspondents ordered to leave by Dr. Milton Obote's government, which has shown signs of increasing irritation with what it regards as hostile Western reporting on troubled Uganda.

O'Keefe worked as part-time correspondent for several major Western news organizations, including Reuters and the British Broadcasting Corporation.
