Jordon to try another US arms purchase plan

King Hussein of Jordan said he was formulating new requests to buy US weapons and would formally present them in the near future.

In an interview on ABC-TV's ''This Week With David Brinkley,'' the Jordanian monarch said he felt reassured after talking with top Reagan administration officials that the door was open again for such sales.

He said Jordan particularly needed mobile air defense missiles and Washington's ''cold shoulder'' to such requests under previous administrations had caused him reluctantly to agree to buy Soviet missiles.

Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger, appearing on the same broadcast, said he also felt Jordan needed a mobile air defense system. He added that it would serve US interests to have Jordan purchase US rather than Soviet missiles.
