Kenyan President shuffles Cabinet to boost his hold

February 26, 1982

Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi curbed the power of two influential ministers and promoted two political allies in a Cabinet shuffle. Only nine ministers out of 25 were unaffected by the changes, which diplomats said were intended to strengthen Mr. Moi's position.

The diplomats said the shuffle was unlikely to affect Kenya's pro-Western policies, with their stress on a capitalist economy and close ties with the United States and its allies.
