South Florida drug drive nets indictments, seizures

February 19, 1982

More than 65 people have been charged and millions of dollars in property seized after a 2 1/2-year investigation of drug trafficking in south Florida, the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced.

FBI Director William H. Webster said the probe netted the highest number of people indicted in any investigation handled jointly by the FBI and the US Drug Enforcement Administration.

The FBI said the indictment charged four separate groups with drug trafficking that netted several hundred million dollars a year from narcotics smuggling and imported more than 1 million pounds of marijuana into the United States annually.
