UN a la Koch

February 19, 1982

He said it and he's glad. New York's Mayor Koch, that is - who reiterated for the TV cameras the exaggerated epithets he had bestowed on the towering guest of his city, the United Nations. It's easy to see why New Yorkers so often rally 'round hizzoner. He's no more reluctant than a crosstown taxi driver to share a piece of his mind.

In this instance, however, his remarks were little short of mindless. For all the faults of its members, it's the only UN we've got. Can even a New Yorker say, Who needs it?
