Pakistan expels American after Soviet biowar claim

February 11, 1982

The American head of a malaria research center was expelled by the Pakistan government Feb. 9 after a Soviet magazine charged the laboratory was a CIA-backed center for studies on biological warfare, the New York Times reported.

Dr. David R. Nalin said the Soviet accusations had gone on for years, and denied the charge that the center was breeding disease-bearing mosquitoes for use in Afghanistan and Cuba, the story said.
