British Airways flights grounded by a strike

February 10, 1982

Another United Kingdom airline is having troubles. British Airways' European and domestic flights were halted Tuesday by striking ground staff at Heathrow Airport. They rejected the airline's cost-cutting plan to pare its staff from 52 ,000 to 43,000. The state-owned carrier lost $260 million last year and planned to run a limited service using management and staff volunteers to handle baggage.
