W. German envoy safe after gun attack in Iran

February 9, 1982

Gunmen ambushed the West German ambassador to Iran on his way to his embassy in Tehran but he escaped safely, a West German Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

The spokesman said a car blocked the way of Ambassador Jens Petersen's car, forcing it to stop, and several men opened fire from close range. The car was armor-plated, but the windows were shattered in the attack.
