INFLATION. Better times ahead.
The recession, of course, has helped slow inflation. Consumer prices climbed 12.4 percent in 1980. That dropped to about 9 percent in 1981. Further improvement is expected. Economists predict 8 percent or less this year.
Usually, inflation continues to moderate for about a year after a recession ends.
