Wyoming weighs adding adjoining bit of Nebraska

January 27, 1982

The Wyoming Legislature is considering asking its Nebraska counterpart to let residents of the Nebraska Panhandle vote on whether to become part of the state of Wyoming.

A proposed joint resolution asking for a referendum in the Nebraska Panhandle says that Panhandle residents have strong social, economic, and cultural bonds to eastern Wyoming and that many have expressed a desire to switch states.

If the Wyoming Legislature approves the resolution and the Nebraska Legislature approves the referendum, a majority vote of the Panhandle residents and the approval of Congress would be required to move the state line.
