African nations ready response on Namibia

Representatives of eight black African states and Namibian guerrilla leader Sam Nujoma agreed this weekend on a common response to a Western plan for a peaceful independence settlement in Namibia (South West Africa).

Delegates from the six front-line countries - Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe -- attended the four hours of talks with envoys of Kenya and Nigeria and Mr. Nujoma, the president of SWAPO (the South West Africa People's Organization).

Details of the response had not been disclosed by Sunday afternoon.
