Letup seen in arctic air, then it's the shivers again

The Central and Eastern parts of the nation can expect more blasts of arctic air during the next month, although there should be some temporary relief in the next few days, the National Weather Service said Monday.

But James Wagner, meteorologist with the service's Climate Analysis Center, said it is unlikely the next cold spells will be as severe as the two record-breaking frigid air masses that have hit the eastern half of the nation so far this month.

The outlook calls for relatively mild Pacific air to affect the Southwest, with nearly normal weather elsewhere.
