Bo says no to playoff

January 13, 1982

Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler on why he opposes adding a national playoff to what is already a long, demanding season: ''I can remember when I started coaching. We had nine games. We went to 10 because we wanted more money. We went to 11 because we wanted more money. We play in a bowl game, that's 12. And now you want us to compete for a national championship. I don't think that's practical. We can do it, but we're going to lose a lot of kids on the way. You can't just continually compete in football and expect these kids to get a viable degree."
