Public kept in the dark on key Polish meeting

No details had been given by Sunday of the Jan. 9 meeting between the Polish military leader, Gen. Wojciech Jaruzelski, and Poland's Roman Catholic primate, Archbishop Jozef Glemp.
Special Monitor correspondent Eric Bourne writes that the two men had not conferred since their joint talk with Solidarity leader Lech Walesa Nov. 4. Since martial law, the primate refused a meeting with the general without Mr. Walesa's taking part. That he agreed to meet now could mean that Archbishop Glemp thought it essential to stress the view of the church that the crisis can never be settled without the free involvement of the Union.
