Hunt seeks pardon in Watergate case

January 5, 1982

Watergate figure E. Howard Hunt is seeking a presidential pardon for his conviction stemming from the break-in at Democratic headquarters, it was disclosed Monday.

Mr. Hunt, a former Nixon White House aide, has served 32 months in jail. He filed an application with the Justice Department in October -- the first step in an effort to win a pardon. It could take the Justice Department up to two years to review the application and make a recommendation to the White House.

Last month it was disclosed that another Watergate figure, Jeb Stuart Magruder, was also seeking a pardon.
