China wants US to clarify arms sales to Taiwan

China demanded a clarification from the Reagan administration of its decision to sell military spare parts to Taiwan and said it remained ''firmly opposed'' to US arms sales to the Nationalists.

US officials said Monday the administration had sent Congress notice that it intends to sell Taiwan the spare parts but that no decision yet has been made on selling it fighter jets.

Taiwan officials said the sale totals $97 million and is the first proposed sale of military equipment by the Reagan administration to Taiwan.

China has threatened to ''pull back'' from the US if it sells Taiwan arms.
