Polish ambassador granted US asylum

December 21, 1981

Polish Ambassador to the US Romauld Spasowski was granted political asylum Sunday, charging his government with imposing a state of war and an unprecedented ''reign of terror'' on the people of Poland.

Mr. Spasowski, with his wife Wanda at his side, read an emotional statement to reporters a few hours after Secretary of State Alexander Haig announced that President Reagan had granted the Polish diplomat asylum and protection.
