California college staffs voting on union linkup

December 15, 1981

Professors and other workers at the 19-campus California State University and College system begin voting this week on whether they will unionize. If they vote to do it, the nearly 30,000 employees in the system would become the largest group of unionized academic employees in a single university system in the nation.

Several rival unions are involved in the election, but two major ones, the Congress of Faculty Associations and the United Professors of California, each claim enough votes for victory.
