House GOP joins support for Reagan foreign aid bill

Under pressure from President Reagan to support his foreign policy, House Republicans joined Democrats in approving a two-year foreign aid bill earmarking nearly $12 billion for friendly nations.

Stressing military assistance over economic aid, an amendment to the bill provides for renewed aid to Pakistan, while another condemns Libya for sanctioning terrorism. It also reestablishes the Peace Corps as a separate agency.

The Senate has passed its own version of the bill, also largely in line with Mr. Reagan's request, and the package now goes to a House-Senate conference committee.
