Snowshine

December 10, 1981

Do we notice the big storms because they are big or because they weren't predicted as such? Bostonians recently had a snowstorm much heavier in some places than all the computers, weather maps, etc., had led them to believe. For all the daily predictions of sunshine and precipitation percentages that turn out to be right, a person shoveling out a car or walking unexpected miles to work wonders, ''Why didn't anybody tell me!''

Nature still has a few tricks up its sleeve when it's playing against mere technology. Leaning into the blizzard, maybe some people remembered that glorious day that defied predictions by being sunny.
