December 9, 1981

The Seychelles government is investigating the possibility of Kenyan involvement in a mercenary-led attempt to topple it, President Albert Rene said. He was commenting on allegations by one of five mercenaries arrested here after an abortive coup that Kenya had planned to airlift troops to this Indian Ocean island to ensure the coup's success.

Kenyan President arap Moi denied that Kenya was in any way involved with the attempted coup in the Seychelles.
