Britain's new party gains 25th seat in Parliament

December 3, 1981

Britain's new Social Democratic Party has gained its 25th member of Parliament with another defection from the opposition Labour Party. Ronald Brown , brother of a former foreign secretary, Lord George-Brown, says he feels Labour policy is drifting too far to the left.

The Social Democrats, whose only member of Parliament elected under that banner won a seat last week, is a centrist alliance drawing on disillusionment with both major parties.
