Democrat concedes in New Jersey vote

December 1, 1981

Democratic US Rep. James Florio has conceded defeat to Republican Thomas Kean Monday in the closest New Jersey governor's race in modern history. Mr. Florio says he will not contest the election result, which gave Mr. Kean a 1,667-vote victory. The four-term congressman said he was conceding defeat because it is ''in the best interests of the state to allow Kean to prepare'' for a new administration.
