B-1, MX funding fired on by House panel chairman

October 27, 1981

The chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee proposed the elimination of funding for the B-1 bomber and the MX missile. Rep. Joseph P. Addabbo (D) of New York proposed the cuts as part of an $11.2 billion package of defense reductions, saying there are ''better ways to do both jobs,'' including development of an advanced bomber and further development of the Trident missile submarine program.
