"You cannot take an ostrich-like position. Casino gambling is here in the form of Las Vegas nights, and the criminal elements have penetrated them." These words from a Massachusetts district attorney are fair warning anyplace where gambling enters the community in the guise of so-called "Las Vegas nights" charity parties. While Massachusetts wrestles with whether to legalize big commercial casinos, such parties flourish to the point of drawing official probes. It shouldn't take official action for citizens and organizations to prevent criminal abuse of this form of fund-raising by rejecting it in the first place.
