Japan plans to up imports to stem export criticism

Japan will unveil a plan today (Oct. 2) to increase imports of manufactured goods in an attempt to avert mounting criticism of its booming exports while helping its economy to expand. Toshio Komoto, director general of the Economic Planning Agency, said the measures would include enlarging the oil stockpile, bringing forward some public-works projects, and helping domestic industries in recession.
