Talks revive on building English Channel tunnel

September 29, 1981

British and French transport officials began talks on building a tunnel under the English Channel following agreement to revive the project. Monday's talks were the first serious in-depth intergovernment discussion on a fixed link between Britain and France in six years, French officials said. Eight plans are to be discussed during the series of talks, ranging from a single-bore rail tunnel to a plan to carry both rail and road traffic.
