Labor mediator called in at London Sunday Times

September 28, 1981

An independent mediator met workers and management at the Sunday Times Sunday to try to resolve a dispute preventing publication of the newspaper, whose management suspended all, 1,400 employees without pay Friday, saying it would not discuss printers' demands for extra money and increased manning.

The dispute grew out of issues left unresolved when Rupert Murdoch bought The Times and the Sunday Times last February for the equivalent of $22 million. The sale followed an 11-month shutdown.
